December 2021 - we have a happy update on our 2020 News item River Champions UK

Last year Mike Hughes was recognised in the National Rivers Awards for his work over the last decade in helping to improve the quality and ecology of water courses in the Telford area and for working with local schools to help educate the school children and through them, their parents, in the ecology of watercourses and the importance of keeping them clear of pollution.

Instead of the usual huge meal and plenty of drinks, due to Covid-19 the awards ceremony was done via a virtual presentation from Nottingham. A short film was shown to the delegates about the work of the people and projects receiving awards.

Richard Teague and Guy Pluckwell of the Environment Agency were at the Reserve on Tuesday 14th December to teach water dowsing, so they took the opportunity to hand over Mike's award in person.

'It was a lovely surprise and fitting that it was given to me in the middle of a reclaimed boggy area in Telford rather than a grand stage in Nottingham!'
